Preparation and Stability of Stainless Steel Nanofluids

    Song Y Y, et al. Powder Technology, 2015, 272: 34-44.

Stainless steel nanopowders have the ability to resist corrosion or chemical reactions with fluids. Furthermore, when metal nanoparticles are dispersed in a fluid, the enhancement in thermal conductivity is higher than in the case of oxides.
    Preparation of stainless steel nanofluids
    · Use stainless steel nanopowder as research material, distilled water as dispersion base liquid, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as surfactants.
    · Nanofluid was prepared by a two-step method, that is, a stainless steel dispersion with a particle concentration of 0.017 wt.% was first prepared, and then subjected to ultrasonic pulse treatment of 40 kHz to improve the dispersion of particles.
The thermal conductivity of 0.017 wt.% stainless steel nanoparticle-water fluids was higher at optimal condition, pH 11, showing a strong relationship between the fluid stability and heat transfer property.
