    Dense silica carboxyl coated upconverting nanoparticles are advanced nanomaterials that incorporate a variety of functional components to enhance their utility in various applications, particularly in the biomedical field. Carboxyl groups can react with amine groups (-NH2) through carbodiimide chemistry (e.g., using EDC/NHS coupling) to attach proteins, antibodies, or other biomolecules, making these nanoparticles suitable for targeted drug delivery or specific binding in bioimaging.

    Our products are doped with lanthanide ions in which ytterbium (Yb3+) acts as the sensitizer and erbium (Er3+) or thulium (Tm3+) acts as the activator. Ytterbium absorbs near-infrared light efficiently and transfers energy to the activators, which then emit visible or ultraviolet light.
