Alcohol-soluble ZnCdS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) are functional nanomaterials specifically designed for stable dispersion in alcohol-based solvent systems. These quantum dots can be easily integrated into various formulations and experimental platforms that require alcohol-compatible fluorescent nanomaterials. Their surfaces can be modified with functional ligands, allowing good compatibility with a wide range of matrices and enabling further chemical conjugation or material incorporation.
Alcohol-soluble ZnCdS/ZnS QDs generally consist of a ZnCdS alloy core and a ZnS outer shell. The ZnCdS core serves as the primary luminescent center, where the emission wavelength can be tuned by controlling the particle size and composition of the alloy. The ZnS shell plays a critical role in passivating surface defects and improving charge confinement, which significantly enhances the quantum yield and photostability of the quantum dots. In addition, the surface of these QDs is typically modified with hydrophilic ligands, enabling excellent solubility and stable dispersion in alcohol solvents.
These quantum dots exhibit strong fluorescence emission, narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM), and high photoluminescence quantum yield. The emission wavelength can be precisely tuned across the visible spectrum by adjusting the size and composition of the ZnCdS core. Compared with traditional single-component quantum dots, the ZnCdS alloy structure reduces lattice mismatch with the ZnS shell, leading to improved optical performance and reduced non-radiative recombination. In addition, the incorporation of zinc into the alloy core effectively lowers the cadmium content, providing a low-cadmium composition that is more environmentally friendly and suitable for applications with stricter material safety requirements.
